Catie Cuan is a dancer, choreographer, and roboticist. She is currently a PhD Candidate in the Mechanical Engineering department at Stanford University, where she recently completed a Master’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering. She received the Stanford Mechanical Engineering Departmental Fellowship and the National Institute of Health Biotechnology Training Fellowship.
Her research and artistic work focuses on robotics, haptics, learning from demonstration, dance, and human-robot interaction. Catie has held artistic residencies at ThoughtWorks Arts, TED, and the RAD Lab; and directed her own dance company, Catie Cuan Dance, for six years in New York City. She co-founded Critical Practices Unit, a working group on art and technology, at Stanford in 2019.
