New to Computational Creativity?
Over the past few years, AI and machine learning have made remarkable progress in their generative capacities. Across creative domains such as writing, art, music, design, maths and research, today’s state-of-the-art algorithms can produce works that, to the casual observer, rival those made by human professionals.
These systems have captured the imagination of academia, industry, and the public alike, leading to an explosion of AI-generated content and lively discussions around the development, application and societal impact of such systems. Alongside this rapid development, questions of ethics, authorship, and authenticity have become more pressing than ever.
But these are not new questions — at least not to the community of researchers dedicated to Computational Creativity! The field of Computational Creativity has been investigating the nature and mechanisms of creativity in machines for decades, exploring what it means for a system to originate, transform, and evaluate creative ideas.
Researchers in Computational Creativity combine perspectives from artificial intelligence, cognitive science, philosophy, psychology, design, and the arts, developing both theoretical frameworks and practical systems that seek to understand and extend creative behavior. The Association for Computational Creativity is an international effort to bring people interested in these topics together as a community.
