The Programme Committee of the Computational Creativity workshop invites submissions of technical and position papers for the workshop.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES:

This workshop will bring together researchers from AI, Cognitive Science and other related areas such as Psychology, Philosophy and Arts working on Computational Creativity, providing the opportunity to promote presentation and discussion of ongoing work in the area.

The workshop should encourage cross-fertilization between the various approaches, including the study of cognitive and computational models for Creativity, and the application of current AI techniques to the development of Creative Systems.

The workshop will provide a forum for identifying trends and opportunities for research on creativity and promising practices concerning the development of creative systems.

This workshop is the latest in a growing list of events that have, since 1997, solidified and added rigour to the computational treatment of creative processes (symposia and workshops associated with AISB 00, ICCBR 01, AISB 01, ECAI 02, AISB 02, IJCAI 03, AISB 03, LREC 04, ECCBR 04).

TOPICS:

Original contributions are solicited in all areas related to computational creativity, including but not limited to:

  • Computational models of creativity
  • Cognitive models of creativity
  • Metrics, frameworks and formalizations for the evaluation of novelty and originality
  • Computational tools for supporting creativity (i.e., machine-enhanced creativity)
  • Specific applications to music, language and the arts, to architecture and design, to scientific discovery, to education and to entertainment.

IMPORTANT DATES:

March 28, 2005 Submission deadline

April 22, 2005 Notice of Acceptance

June 5, 2005 Deadline for final camera-ready copies

WORKSHOP FORMAT:

The workshop will comprise invited talk, presentation and discussion sessions. An invited talk by a well known researcher in the field is expected to occur during the first session. The remaining sessions will consist of paper presentations followed by a discussion panel. Time will be assigned for each paper presentation, including some time for discussion. At the end of each day, a slot will be scheduled for a final discussion.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR CONTRIBUTIONS:

Two categories of submissions are welcome: full papers and short papers.

Full papers must be no longer than 8 pages in length, IJCAI format, and are expected to address foundational issues and research proposals and reports, or to describe in detail current research on creative systems development and modelling.

Short papers must be no longer than 4 pages in IJCAI format and are expected to describe ongoing work.

Submissions will be judged on significance, originality, quality and clarity. Each paper will be cross-reviewed, anonymously, by at least two anonymous referees. We shall be actively seeking an opportunity with an appropriate journal to prepare a special issue on computational creativity for a subset of the accepted papers, after re-submission and appropriate refereeing.

All papers MUST be submitted in IJCAI format, which is the format required for the final camera ready copy. Authors instructions along with LaTeX and Word macro files are available on the web here.

All submissions will be made by electronic means, in postscript or PDF format. Fax or snail mail submissions will not be accepted. Instructions are available on submissions page.

Attendees can register for the main conference and the workshops, or just for the workshops.

REVIEWING PROCESS:

Submissions will be judged on significance, originality, quality and clarity. Each paper will be cross-reviewed by at least two referees. Contributions will be subject to anonymous, blind peer review: reviewers will not be aware of the identities of the authors. This requires that authors exercise some care not to identify themselves in their contributions. Authors will receive feedback in the form of reviewers' comments.

PROCEEDINGS:

Accepted contributions will be distributed by the organisation as workshop notes. Publication of extended versions of selected workshop papers in a Special Issue of a Journal is being negotiated. Further details will be made available at the website of the workshop as soon as possible.
